		<description>Hi Julie,
It depends to a degree on what kind of music your son is interested in, but as a general all round recommendation, I would go for something like a Squier Fat strat. Squier is a sub brand of Fender guitars.
I think at the age of 12, your son should be able to get by on the standard Fender scale length, and if it&#039;s a little bit of a stretch for the fingers, it&#039;ll probably be a good thing as far as finger exercise goes.
If he&#039;s only into heavy rock guitar, then maybe an Epiphone G 400 or Epiphone Les Paul would be a better choice.
I see a guitar as an investment in myself, so I tend to look a little beyond the absolute beginner electric guitars.
It&#039;s kind of the sweet spot where the price is still reasonable but the quality is great.
If you need more info, just holler.
Cheers

		<description>Hi,
My twelve year old desperately would like to have an electric guitar for Christmas. As neither of us play and are frankly clueless we would be really grateful of some advice as to the type of guitar to consider buying him!
Thanks in advance,
